public notes

Though it's been around off and on for I don't know how long, I only recently started listening to Oklahoma City's the Spy radio, 105.3.  I really like it.  So I checked out the online radio version,  http://www.thespyfm.com/  and somehow ended up reading about it.  -How it's been on and off the air since it's conception, due to this and that- I won't go into the details, you can read about it on wikipedia, if you want.  I realized how even though both play the same kind of stuff, the programming is different.  Due to a business blunder between the lessor and the lessee, the station actually split, and one version plays on the traditional radio, while the other occupies the web.  Both of them constantly refer to themselves during broadcasts as "the REAL Spy!"  Too bad they can't play on the same team, because I do like listening to either one of them.  It's easier for me to tune in to the one on traditional radio when in my car, but just as easy to tune in to the online one when I'm somewhere else, and that one can go around the world.  When tuning in, I'm regularly hearing people I know channeling through the airwaves, as well, on both stations. Most recently, I heard some ghosts that I hung around a campfire with the other night.  (http://www.ghostofmonkshood.com/  Go there for a treasure trove of free music originating from the OKC/Norman area.)  In my opinion, the Spy is the most unique station in Oklahoma, and that probably goes for one of the most in the country, as well, though I don't know how many hundreds or thousands or more or less great stations there really are, but traveling around the country, I don't hardly ever seem to hear too many. For the sake of it being where I'm from, like a sports fan, I'll just then go ahead and say that the Spy is the greatest radio station in the world!  There's a show on the online Spy that showcases regional musicians from 7-9 pm, Thursday nights, called the Oklahoma Rock Show-  we recently sent Regardeless the Third their way, and will be sending some more, so if you can find a request line, go ahead and make requests.  Of course, if you're already online, it's just as easy to go listen to it elsewhere- but if you're doing it to throw things into the air, if you're feeling altruistic.  Though the 105.3 version doesn't seem to play this show and we haven't yet sent them anything- they may be prone to snatch some programming if they are indeed a good Spy- and the Real Spy at that.

Also, I know that Acoustic Oklahoma only seeks to nurture the burgeoning regional songwriter scene, and I commend that, but I'll probably repost a new version of a song performance via here pretty soon, because mine didn't really make the cut, to me, personally.  Being that it was significantly cut for some reason.  Sure, it was long, and a rather under-the-breath, mumbly performance, but if people think it sucks, they can always turn it off.  Youtube can easily post up to ten minute single videos, and this isn't the radio.  Also, acoustic music is often folk, and many folk songs are long and tell stories.  Perhaps the show realized this and decided not to do the cuts anymore.  Songs do fade out sometimes, but they usually fade out at the end of the song.  Sometimes you miss out on what happens.

And now I'm going to fade out until next time.

Notes From The Studonym

- Aaron Siemers dropped into Inner State Studios Monday night and performed one
of his new songs- "So What?"

Check it out here:

Other than that, the ever-continuing work of the business of existence- mixing and recording continues for the upcoming EP, but it might end up being in between an EP and an LP- one of the songs is pretty long, yet it fits the alien radio format.  The Studonym, our "Pseudonym for our Traveling Studio," is keeping busy.

-Cheers

Weekly Blog (Happy New Year!) 1-02-11

      So I haven't done much blogging before- a little bit on myspace.  Each time I get involved with a new type of account, it's the same rigmarole of getting acquainted with the layout.  Just a week or so ago, I was asked to drop by Inner State Studio in Oklahoma City to record a song for Acoustic Oklahoma.  My choice of song didn't make the cut because it was eight minutes long- a song called "See What I Mean", so I did a rendition of this- "Gabriel Lane", a pretty mellow version- and the full version didn't get posted, either.  Oh well- this is a song that goes best with 2 guitars- I hope to put it on the next studio band album.  It'll sound a lot different.  Also, a song by Adam Miller- he was playing drums with Aaron and I out in Portland the other week, to this song, too- he dropped by a few days after I did, in town for the holidays.  For those of you who are new to this e-letter/blog, we have a free new album download, along with a lot more music you can listen to and get, at  http://thegardes.bandcamp.com
